Statement from Lt. Gov. Heck on Sen. Mona Das not seeking reelection this fall:

“I’m sad to hear Senator Mona Das won’t seek reelection to the Washington State Senate this fall. Senator Das is an advocate with a deep conviction in the power of government to do good, and her work in the Senate has made a significant impact on the lives of many Washingtonians. Senator Das passed legislation to mitigate the impacts of climate change and remove environmentally harmful single-use plastics and styrofoams from our state’s ecosystems.

Senator Das is also a leader on housing affordability solutions. She sponsored legislation this past session to legalize missing middle housing options statewide, which is one of the most effective steps Washington could take to address our housing shortage and the rapidly rising cost of housing. I know the legacy of Senator Das’s service to our state will resonate for years to come. While she closes this chapter in her life, I know her potential is boundless and I look forward to celebrating the success of her future endeavors.”
