Honoring 2009s Champion of Mentoring



Lt. Governor Owen presents 2009 "Champions of Mentoring" Award to The Honorable Frank E. Cuthbertson of Pierce County Superior Court at the Champions of Mentoring Benefit Auction and Luncheon on June 12 aboard the Holland America cruise ship Zaandam while docked in Seattle. Cuthbertson was honored for recruiting 100 mentors in Pierce County in 2008.

Brad Owen rocks with the Ventures




Lt. Governor Brad Owen was on hand to help the legendary Ventures and Wailers celebrate five decades of rock and roll at their combined 50th anniversary concert April 10 at The Moore in Seattle. Here he is playing the tenor sax with the Ventures on a tune called "Surf Rider."


Lt. Governor testifies on SB5903
Lt. Governor Owen joins contractor Rick Avery of Winthrop to testify before the Senate Committee on Labor, Commerce & Consumer Protection in support of SB 5903, which would make changes  in state prevailing wage law to clarify commercial v. residential construction projects during the job bidding process. Youth & Government event




Lt. Governor Owen addresses the YMCA Youth & Government Breakfast and Proclamation Signing event on Feb. 10 in the rotunda in the state Capitol. He was introduced by Phil Gardner of Tacoma, the governor of the leadership development program. The breakfast included the signing of a proclamation by Governor Gregoire calling for the 62nd Youth Legislature to convene on May 6. About 500 students from across the state are expected to take part.

Lt. Governor Owen was among the many well-wishers who cheered for the 14 members of Washington's Special Olympics team as they departed for the World Winter Games in Boise, which being Feb. 7. The lieutenant governor can be seen briefly speaking in this newscast by Q-13 Fox.

Testifying on legislation to help public safety officers through troubled times




Lt. Governor Owen testifies on Senate Bill 5131, legislation that would set up training program through the Criminal Justice Training Commission, as well as establish confidential communications to help officers get appropriate help for stresses they encounter on the job. Lt. Governor addresses substance abuse prevention rally at Capitol

 

Lt. Governor Owen addresses the Washington Association for Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention rally on Jan. 19, 2009 in the rotunda of the state Capitol in Olympia. More than 200 people were there to celebrate statewide prevention efforts and to garner support for prevention programs from the members of the Legislature. "Prevention Rocks" was the theme of the day. You may also read the speech online.

on disaster recovery from storm damage

 

Lt. Governor Owen, acting as governor, provides a
situation report on Jan. 8, 2008 on the state of flooding and heavy snowfall that ravaged much of Washington state. Owen served as acting governor while Gov. Chris Gregoire was returning from Iraq and Germany while visiting troops from Washington there. Owen was joined at the news conference by Gen. Delivering a mentoring grant in Tri Cities

 

Lt. Governor Owen, co-chair of Washington State Mentors, helps the organization award a $5,000 Bank of America grant to Catholic Family Services' Foster Care to College Program. He was introduced by Jim Marsh, president and chief operating officer of the mentoring organization. Also speaking was Kurt Walsdorf, Bank of America's market president for Eastern and Central Washington.

at 'Chief for a Day' event in Burien

 

Lt. Governor Owen assisted the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission in honoring 15 children at its "Chief for a Day" event at the Criminal Justice Training Center on Aug. 28 in Sea-Tac. In partnership with local law enforcement agencies and hospitals, Chief For a Day is about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic illness.

Lt. Governor Owen participates in a press conference in Seattle on the filming of "Days in America, an Egyptian television drama filmed in the Puget Sound area set to air in September in the Middle East. The series producer, El Tyseer Film Company, is a private Egyptian company with hopes to build an ongoing program to bring filmmakers from the Middle East to use Washington state as a filming location. This clip includes a few introductory remarks by Abderahman Salaheldin, the consul general of Egypt based in San Francisco.
