Lt. Governor addresses YMCA Youth & Government event Lt. Governor Owen addresses the YMCA Youth & Government Breakfast and Proclamation Signing event on Feb. 10 in the rotunda in the state Capitol. He was introduced by Phil Gardner of Tacoma, the governor of the leadership development program. The breakfast included the signing of a proclamation by Governor Gregoire calling for the 62nd Youth Legislature to convene on May 6. About 500 students from across the state are expected to take part. Lieutenant Governor helps send off special group of Washington athletes Lt. Governor Owen was among the many well-wishers who cheered for the 14 members of Washington's Special Olympics team as they departed for the World Winter Games in Boise, which being Feb. 7. Governor Owen addresses Olympia African Trade & Culture Promotion Day, Jan. 29 at the state Capitol, an annual event hosted by the African Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest. Testifying on legislation to help public safety officers through troubled times Lt. Governor Owen testifies on Senate Bill 5131, legislation that would set up training program through the Criminal Justice Training Commission, as well as establish confidential communications to help officers get appropriate help for stresses they encounter on the job. Lt. Governor Owen addresses the Washington Association for Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention rally on Jan. 19, 2009 in the rotunda of the state Capitol in Olympia. More than 200 people were there to celebrate statewide prevention efforts and to garner support for prevention programs from the members of the Legislature. Charter Talk with Lloyd Swain Delivering a mentoring grant in Tri Cities
Lt. Governor Owen, co-chair of Washington State Mentors, helps the organization award a $5,000 Bank of America grant to Catholic Family Services' Foster Care to College Program. He was introduced by Jim Marsh, president and chief operating officer of the mentoring organization. Also speaking was Kurt Walsdorf, Bank of America's market president for Eastern and Central Washington.
Lt. Gov. Owen delivers keynote address
Lt. Governor Owen assisted the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission in honoring 15 children at its "Chief for a Day" event at the Criminal Justice Training Center on Aug. 28 in Sea-Tac. In partnership with local law enforcement agencies and hospitals, Chief For a Day is about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic illness.
