About the committee Title 43.15.060 RCW: Powers - Study and Review of economic issues. The committee, or its subcommittees, are authorized to study and review economic development issues. The committee’s duties include special emphasis on international trade, tourism, investment and industrial development, and assisting the legislature in developing a comprehensive and consistent economic development policy. Tourism is also a vital part of the state's economy and an important economic engine for hundreds of communities and businesses throughout the state. This $14.2.6 billion industry supports more than 147,600 jobs, representing 3.8 percent of all jobs in Washington, according to the Department of Commerce's 2009 "Tourism Matters to Washington" report.
