Ceremony to dedicate historic landmark park in Neah Bay
Marks site of state’s first European settlement, honors veterans

A park on the Washington coast that marks the site of the region’s first European settlement 216 years ago and honors veterans will be dedicated at a ceremony starting at 11 a.m. May 17 on the Makah Indian reservation. The dedication of the Fort Núñez Gaona – Diah Veterans Park will begin with a military flyover, followed by a veterans’ procession, a blessing, speeches, a welcoming dance, a formal (cedar bark) ribbon cutting, and a signing of a welcome treaty between the Makah Nation and the Spanish government. Army Community Covenant ties military, communities around mutual support

Lt. Governor Brad Owen, at table above, adds his signature to those of area mayors, military officials, families and many more at the May 2 signing of the Army Community Covenant at Clover Park Technical College in Pierce County.
