Bay
A park on the Washington coast that marks the site of the region’s first European settlement 216 years ago and honors veterans will be dedicated at a ceremony starting at 11 a.m. May 17 on the Makah Indian reservation. The dedication of the Fort Núñez Gaona – Diah Veterans Park will begin with a military flyover, followed by a veterans’ procession, a blessing, speeches, a welcoming dance, a formal (cedar bark) ribbon cutting, and a signing of a welcome treaty between the Makah Nation and the Spanish government.
