Acting Governor

The Lieutenant Governor serves as Acting Governor, with all of the powers and responsibilities of the Governor, when the Governor is out of the state or is otherwise unable to serve. In this capacity, the Lieutenant Governor needs to be prepared to assume all of the state’s executive responsibilities at a moment’s notice, particularly in response to an emergency. Lieutenant Governor Habib has accepted the Governor’s invitation to serve on the Resilient Washington Subcabinet to keep the state prepared for natural disasters. Lieutenant Governor Habib regularly fills in for the Governor at speaking engagements he is unable to accept due to scheduling limitations, and plans to spend the interim traveling to all parts of the state, visiting and meeting with a broad array of community groups, businesses, tribes, local governments, higher education institutions, and other constituents.
