Current members of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) in the Senate chamber.

The Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) was established in July 2005 to examine issues of importance to youth and advise the Washington State Legislature on these issues and related legislation.

Final appointments are made by the Lt. Gov. Owen based on recommendations and selection criteria developed by the council itself.

TVW's series Engaged: Students Becoming Citizens focused on the Legislative Youth Advisory Council in 2009. The 38-minute piece follows LYAC's top five legislative priorities through the legislative process.

LYAC consists of twenty-two members from around the State of Washington who, at the time of appointment, are ages fourteen to eighteen.  Members serve two-year terms and if eligible, may be reappointed for subsequent two-year terms.
