Dedication of Neah Bay
park includes flyover
by Coast Guard chopper then soaring eagles

Spring sunshine made for a bright and warm
dedication of Fort Núñez Gaona – Diah Veterans Park
on May 17 in Neah Bay. Above, Luis Fernando Esteban, the honorary
consul of Spain, with Makah Tribal Chair Micah McCarty and Lt. Governor
Owen before the ceremony. The dedicatio n
included a veteran's procession, a flyover by a Coast Guard rescue
chopper, speeches and the signing of a Welcome Treaty. Not on the
official agenda was the formation of eagles high above the park, right,
right as the speeches were about to begin. Some called the eagle show a
"blessing" of the park, which marks the site of the first Spanish
settlement in the Northwest in 1792. To learn more, you may see a
