October 19, 2007 Gail and Eva Martin named "Washington Generals"
A Walla Walla couple was added
to the ranks of "Washington Generals" before a group of state
legislators and guests at a reception Thursday at Walla Walla
Community College.
Gail and Eva
Martin, founders of Martin Archery
Inc., were named to the state honor association by Lt. Gov.
Brad Owen for their longtime community involvement
and entrepreneurial success.
The Washington Generals is a service
organization that has been affiliated with the Office of the
Lieutenant Governor since it was formed informally by Lt. Gov. John
Cherberg in 1970. In 2005 the organization was placed into statute
by the Legislature as an officially recognized goodwill ambassador
and trade organization for Washington state.
Owen said the
mission of the Association of Washington Generals is to serve the
citizens of the state of Washington by promoting exceptional
community service, encouraging trade and economic development and
promoting positive international relations.
The Martins founded Martin Archery in
1951 and are still active in the business, which markets and sells
archery products throughout the United States and to more than
25 countries around the world.
Owen noted
that the Martins have contributed greatly over the years to
the YMCA, Steelheaders, Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club, Pope & Young,
and the Elks Foundation and other organizations.
The
lieutenant governor and several legislators are at Walla Walla
University in College Place today for a meeting to learn about the
economic impacts of sport fishing and hunting across Washington
state.
