NEWS RELEASE

Lt. Governor
Owen's statement on passing
of Senators Sid Snyder, Lorraine
Wojahn
“We lost two of our best over
the weekend with the passing of
retired state Senators Sid
Snyder of Long Beach and
Lorraine Wojahn of Tacoma. I
regarded both as friends and
mentors over our many years of
service together.
Senator
Snyder’s easy smile, gentle
demeanor and keen intellect made
him a natural in the political
world. He could bring people
together from both sides of the
aisle like no other. That the
street into the Capitol is named
for him is a fitting tribute to
the impact he had in Olympia
over his more than 50 years of
public service.
Senator
Wojahn was a leading voice in
our chamber for those who could
not always speak up for
themselves: the homeless, the
economically disadvantaged, the
disabled, our children and
seniors. She was a determined
champion for policies that would
improve public health programs
and stop preventable diseases.
She was also somewhat of a
pioneer in that the number of
women in the House when she was
first elected in 1977 was a very
small club; now there are many.
Senators Snyder and Wojahn
were remarkable people with
significant accomplishments both
inside and outside of Olympia.
Their respective contributions
to our state were both profound
and lasting. It is fitting that
we pay our deepest respects to
their memories and celebrate all
who they were. Our thoughts are
also with their families and
friends during this difficult
time.”
